Richard Martin is a Democratic political consultant from Missouri who has successfully managed the campaigns of United States Senator Claire McCaskill in 2006 and Governor Bob Holden in 2000.
His career in politics dates back to 1978 in Dallas, Texas. Richard first became involved in Missouri in 1992 when he was the Regional Director in Kansas City working for the Clinton-Gore presidential campaign. He then served three years as Executive Director of the Missouri Democratic Party before serving as State Director for the Clinton-Gore re- election campaign in Missouri.
After the 1996 campaign, he reentered the private sector, joining Sprint PCS as one of its initial hires in the area of Government Affairs. After leaving to manage Bob Holden's campaign for Governor he returned to Sprint as Director of Tax Policy where he worked for 6 years. While serving as Director of Tax Policy at Sprint his successes included leading efforts to extend and expand the Internet Tax Freedom Act, two economic stimulus bills with important amendments impacting the telecommunications industry and Amendments to the Energy Act of 2005 which allowed for the industry to benefit from its use and deployment of fuel cells and micro-turbines as an alternative power source. In late 2005 he was called by then State Auditor Claire McCaskill who asked Richard to manage her campaign for the United States Senate.
Following that historic election he started his own Public Affairs firm, The Martin Communication Group (MCG). His firm has been involved in several statewide and local campaigns on behalf of candidates and corporate clients. Recently, in support of amendments to the Financial Regulatory Reform Act, MCG successfully developed and executed an online grassroots campaign for Mortgage Investors Corporation. And while candidate work has taken a back seat recently to more corporate and issue related efforts, MCG is always on the look for candidates who can make a difference and are not afraid to swing for the fences.
Mr. Martin also serves as Director of Government Affairs for JE Dunn Construction Company. The 10th largest general contractor in the United States headquartered in Kansas City, MO and with 21 offices across the country. Some of Richard’s clients are Uber technologies, AutoReturn, PayLock, Expedia, Kansans for Wind Energy, Northrop Grumman and HNTB. Richard is originally from Dallas, Texas and a graduate of the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin. He is married to Alison Barnes Martin, a professional photographer and has two daughters Cora and Celia.
